York Pride Fest 2010 – York Region’s Annual Pride Festival,
6th-13th June.
York Region, Ontario, Canada – May 21, 2010 - York Pride Fest is pleased to announce details of York Region's tenth annual pride week festival, scheduled
for June 6th-13th, 2010.
On Sunday June 6th at 7pm, the programme of festival events will
commence with a Pride Church Service at St Matthew's United Church in Richmond Hill. Following this ecumenical community
celebration, PFLAG Canada York Region (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) will host a social hour with light
refreshments.
An informal meet and greet social night at Jack Astor's Bar & Grill
in Woodbridge will follow on the evening of Tuesday June 8th, with a similar event at Casey's Grill Bar in Newmarket on
the evening of Thursday 10th. Mid-week on Wednesday 9th at 9pm, the Lebovic Centre at Nineteen on the Park, Stouffville
will offer a Pride Movie Night, presenting a film screening of “Breakfast With Scot”, a touching comedy starring
Tom Cavanagh, Ben Shenkman and Noah Bernett.
Dave and Buster's in Concord will
be home to this year's Youth Pride event, on Friday 11th starting at 6pm. Tagged as 'Rainbow Fusion presents
Rainbow Warriors', this event invites attendees to dress up as their favourite superhero and will include a buffet dinner,
music, dancing, awesome prizes, as well as arcade games in Dave & Buster's Million Dollar Midway.
This year's Pride Week festivities will conclude on Sunday June 13th with a picnic and barbecue at Bruce's
Mill Conservation Area in Stouffville. Commencing at noon, the afternoon schedule will include a flag raising ceremony and
welcome by guest speakers followed by live entertainment and a community fair featuring a selection of local businesses and
community organizations.
For all events, York Pride Fest extends
an invitation to families, friends and all supporters of diversity, in addition to members of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual
and Transgender) community.
As well as hosting its own pride week celebrations, York Pride Fest will once again
represent York Region at Toronto Pride, by participating in the pride parade on Sunday July 4th and by operating a community
information booth on Church St, Toronto throughout the July 3rd/4th pride weekend. Additionally, for one month commencing mid May, York Pride Fest will present diversity awareness displays
at twelve public libraries, covering all municipalities across York Region. Brochures and other materials describing the region's
LGBT services and resources will also be made available at the same locations.
York Pride Fest has contributed to York
Region's community as a local association since 2007 and is run exclusively as a coalition of dedicated volunteers together
with representatives from various local community partner organizations.
